WTFFriday: Black Hole Staining Gym Bag

23 07 2010

There was something funny smelling about my gym bag so like a responsible adult, I decided to wash it.
I typically wash it after camping and then every other month; well, when I was a gym rat. So it’s not like this was the first time I’d ever washed it.
My gym bag is pink plaid, of course.

Over the fall/winter, I lost a pair of earrings. A pair I had gotten the previous Christmas after making it VERY known that I would like them.

I knew I took them off at the gym, but they weren’t in my travel jewelry box (as I’m one of THOSE people who doesn’t work out in full make-up and accessories) not were they attached to any of my sweaters; for a while I would forget my jewelery box and would hook earrings on my shirts to prevent them from getting lost.
I’ve been looking in earnest around the house, dumped out my gym bag at least a dozen times and washed it at least thrice since losing said earrings. I knew they HAD to be somewhere… i was just hoping they weren’t eaten by the washer.
Last night, I pulled the bag from the dryer and noticed something shiny on the floor.
FINALLY, my earrings had been lodged loose from wherever and were found!
YYYEEEEEESSSSSSS.

While pulling my clothes from the dryer, I got to my Favoritest Maternity Shirt- White with tiny black polka dots, collared v-neck, tie in the back… makes me feel cute, goes with jeans and dress pants.
“WHY is this pink?!” I asked the washer and dryer. “PPPPPIIIINNNNKKKK?”
And then I looked at my gym bag.
What the universe giveth, the universe taketh away.

I once turned an entire load of whites pink from one simple little pair of red underpants. The pink never quite washed out of those clothes.

I also turned a lot of white socks gray by washing them in the same load as my black socks. In a convenient twist, all of those black socks faded to gray so I could play mix and match with all of the socks.

So it was like getting twice, then half, the socks you had before… as long as you’re not wearing them with sandals…

Oh nos! If you truly hate it you can try RIT colour out dye remover. Most supermarkets and Walmart have it in the laundry isle.

…oh, and so glad you found your lovely earrings!

I’ve been to three grocery stores and each time, forgotten to get that Rit until I got home…

D’OH!

Sooo sorry to hear about your gain, then subsequent loss. SH*TE!

But at least you’re still altogether (albeit in a slightly brighter shade.) When I was in grad school, some a-hole burglarized my apt. He used my gym bag to cart off my VCR and jewelry. Know what I miss most (besides my amazingly huge & stunning turquoise ring?) – those old ratty gym shorts from HS.. SIGH….

It’s those comfort things that mean the most!
WTH would he have wanted with your shorts… unless he was a fetishist.

Don’t get a “favorite maternity shirt.” Then you’ll have three of them. Kids, that is…no shirts.

Don’t scare me like that!

It doesn’t seem to giveth as often as it takeths away.

When my 1st son Scott was a baby I decided to help out & do the laundry. I washed a whole load of diapers. Unfortunately I didn’t notice Scott’s one single solitary little baby’s red t-shirt mixed in with them. The whole lot turned pink. Shoulda kept them I guess for when our daughter was born 3 years later….

Under clothes, who notices what color your nappies are?!
Well, until you’re older…

Pink is nice too.

It’s a selective-area-pink.
And somehow it got tangled up in Steve’s laundry, so now it’s white, pink, black and blue.

Maybe the spin cycle gave your gym bag a nosebleed?

Clearly it’s an excuse to go out and buy a new top. With no pink on it.

And I did buy a new top!
It’s bright blue!

It would work if it wasn’t a splat of color here and there…

I washed my son’s baseball clothes the other day and his white sliding shorts came out pink. Thank goodness the color disappeared after the shorts soaked in bleach water for hours since I didn’t want to discuss pink-ness of important uniform clothing with a tired 16-year old, even if there was only one baseball game left in the season! My mom swears by the Color Catcher sheets that you put in the wash, the loose dye sticks to the sheets instead of your other clothes. I haven’t tried them, but probably should…

Sorry about your shirt, (seems like it’s always the favoritest or most important things that get attacked by stains or other laundry) but I’m glad you found your earrings, they are lovely!

Oh, I bleached, which didn’t really work and then Steve’s clothes bled onto the shirt as well. And it’s not like anything was new… I don’t get why things just started bleeding.
BOO.

And the pants thing reminds me of that Simpsons where Homer goes in with a pink shirt 🙂

I was totally surprised that the bleach worked since the shorts are made of some weird material and say “Do Not Bleach” on the tag. I can’t believe they went back to normal! I know, I didn’t think anything in that load of wash was new, and why did only the shorts turn pink and nothing else, since there were other white items in the load? The mysteries of cleaning things continue to astound me.
